About Sherry Dockins

Hi! I’m Sherry who is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I use a holistic, strength-based approach, founded on mutual respect, understanding and compassion used to build positive and productive relationships.  I believe this client centered philosophy, enables a true partnership between client and clinician to explore the origins of current life circumstances and together, developing a roadmap to increase happiness, healthiness and wholeness. 

I have over 20 years of experience working within the mental health field.  My clinical experience has been focused on helping those with anxiety, depression, substance use, addiction, dual diagnosis, trauma, PTSD, domestic violence, sexual assault and autism (level 1) adults.

 My clinical experience includes providing services within individual, couples, group and family session modalities.  Additionally, I have experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as Program Director for domestic violence/sexual assault shelter.  I have had roles such as the Director of a partial hospitalization program providing mental health services for those 65 years and older, Substance Abuse Coordinator for the Human Services Program at Illinois Valley Community College, teaching Psychology and Addictions and Domestic Violence courses.  I have experience providing therapy for adults with autism (level 1).  I also provide anger management services, and is a professional speaker. 

My education began at Illinois Valley Community College, in Oglesby, Illinois, earning an Associate of Arts and Associates of Science degree.  I continued my education with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and a Master of Art degree in Substance Abuse Counseling (MASA) from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois.  I am a credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Certified Alcohol and other Drug Counselor (CADC) and an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP).

Did you say Emotional Support Animal?

 

YES!

 

According to Pettable a parrot can legally serve as Emotional Support Animal (ESAs).  Parrots are companion birds that offer empathy, deep bonding, comfort, emotional support, and companionship.  This can provide support for anxiety and depression. It is important to know that parrots are not concidered a service animals and do not have public access rights.
